What key steps did we take?: We had several high impact media moments in the campaign, but the most coverage came from our strategy of getting more than 100 religious leaders and institutions to sign a letter in support of removing the ban on same-sex marriage based on their faith.

How did we tailor the approach to the client’s audience and goals?: This sharp reversal of the stance of the majority of religious leaders in past decades created the perfect “man bites dog” story, garnering significant coverage on television, radio, in print and online. Because the campaign had limited funds for advertising, the attention that came through traditional media was important at a pivotal moment before voters headed to the polls.

Execution & Key Tactics

Our outreach resulted in dozens of stories in a tough media environment and the campaign was able to use this coverage to feed organizing and fundraising efforts. Ultimately, the campaign was successful in passing an amendment to remove the ban on same-sex marriage from the Colorado Constitution in November 2024. That victory helps protect the freedom to marry for all LGBTQ+ Coloradans, no matter what the U.S. Supreme Court rules in the future.
